West Lothian will enter Tier 4 restrictions on Friday 20th November 2020. Our clinics will remain open during this Tier and our podiatrists will still be available. If you have an appointment booked with us then you are still able to attend our clinics for treatment. Travel to your appointment is also permitted as you are attending a healthcare appointment. As always, our staff will be adhering to strict infection procedures to ensure the safety of our patients and to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

Following the First Ministers announcement, the West Lothian area will be under Level 3 restrictions as from Monday 2nd November. We would like to reassure you that we will still able to carry out your podiatry treatment. Podiatry is a medical treatment so you are permitted to travel to your appointment as your journey is classed as essential travel. We have been advised that we may have to restrict some treatments depending on our appointment capacity but this is not the case at the moment. We will continue to apply strict infection control procedures and protocols to keep our clinics safe for you and our staff. Thank you once again for adhereing to our protocols when you attend our clinics. Please arrive at the time of your appointment (dont be tempted to arrive early) Our doors are kept locked, so please ring the bell / knock to door for entry. Please attend on your own and dont bring any unecessary bags or items. Please wear a face-covering Please wash your hands (or use our hand gel) when you enter and before you leave. Please maintain social distancing measures. We look forward to seeing you for your treatment. Stay safe! x

We are pleased to announce that our governing body has turned our treatment traffic light to green! This means that we are now allowed to treat the vast majority of our patients again. Both of our clinics are open and all of our podiatrists are now back to look after your feet. We are in the process of contacting patients who had their appointments cancelled or who are now over-due their treatment but as you may appreciate it will take a bit of time for us to catch up! In the meantime, we would be happy to hear from you if you would like us to arrange an appointment for you. Our phones may be busier than usual so feel free to drop us an email us at info@mcdonaldfootcare.co.uk if you prefer. It may take slightly longer for us to respond at the moment due to the sheer volume of appointments which we have to reschedule after the restrictions. We appreciate your patience and want to reassure you that we will get back to you as soon as we can. Although we are open, you will notice a few changes when you attend. We have put additional infection control protocols in place to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission and to ensure that we provide as safe an environment as possible for our staff and patients. Our opening hours may be slightly different for a while and entry into the clinics will be strictly by appointment only. Our appointments will be spaced out so that we have adequate time to carry our essential cleaning before and after every patient that we see. Despite our doors being locked we will look forward to welcoming you and your feet when you arrive for your appointment!

Our podiatrists will be phoning those patients who are likely to fall into the treatment categories outlined within our latest guidance. All patients will be pre-screened over the phone before an appointment can be offered. This process is likely to take us time as we will be working through our diaries calling patients who have had clinic based appointments booked since 23rd March. Unfortunately, we are unable to resume our normal home visiting service quite yet. If you are able to come into the clinic for treatment instead then we may be able to see you a little bit quicker. If you require emergency treatment then please get in touch and we will call you back to discuss this. Our phone lines are likely to be busier than usual while we call patients to reschedule their overdue appointments so, please contact us via email at info@mcdonaldfootcare.co.uk if possible and we will call you back as soon as we can. Thank you for your understanding and patience, we hope to see you soon!

I'm pleased to say that we have new guidance from the College of Podiatry which enables us to see a wider range of patients for treatment. We are still not returning to "normal" but this will allow us to treat those of you within certain treatment categories. All patients will be assessed over the phone in line with this guidance before being offered an appointment.

Unfortunately, our clinics remain temporarily closed until further notice in line with the governments Covid-19 restrictions. If you have an appointment booked, or previously had one postponed, then we will get in touch with you to reschedule this when we know that we are able to carry out your treatment. We do hope that this will be sooner rather than later! In the meantime, please call us if you are concerned about your feet. If we don’t answer at the time, then please leave a message and we will call you back. We are generally picking up phone messages in the mornings between 10 & 12 on weekdays. We will try our best to offer you advice over the phone if we believe that this will improve your symptoms, whilst maintaining social distancing guidelines. In some circumstances, it may be possible to see you within our clinic to provide emergency treatment. If you believe that you require emergency care, then please contact us before 11am as this will often enable us to arrange treatment for that day if necessary. We will triage all patients over the phone in accordance with our professional guidelines and/or we may also ask you to email a photo of your foot problem so that we can assess the problem more fully. We hope that you are all well and look forward to welcoming you into our clinics as soon as this is possible.

In line with the guidance from the government and the College of Podiatry we are still able to provide ongoing support to our patients. We will be available on the other end of the phone (during normal office hours) to provide advice and help should any foot concerns arise during the weeks ahead. To minimise the strain on the NHS at this time we will be able to provide some emergency care if this is necessary. If you have any concerns regarding your foot health then please contact us to discuss your symptoms. We will triage all potential appointments by telephone and may ask you to provide photos via email to aid this process if necessary. Emergency care will include the treatment of: • Ingrown toenails with signs of infection • Callus or corns that are susceptible to breakdown or infection We wish all of our patients well during this time and look forward to welcoming you back into our clinics soon. Lynn McDonald Call 01506 871567 / 0506 884321 during normal office hours (Monday –Friday 9.30am – 5pm)
